This new fire station is located in downtown Youngtown on the corner of 111th Ave and Michigan and it will replace the existing 2,791 sf. fire station no. 133 located on 111th Ave and Windsor Dr. This site was a property the fire department purchased years in the hopes of relocating the existing fire station to a better location to serve the Youngtown residents The program needs for this facility required a two-story design to maximize the use of the narrow site of approximately 30,000 sf. This 16,248 s.f. Fire Station is 2-Story, 3 bay drive-through station with an additional back-end bay for the Battalion Chief. This facility also includes 12 dorm rooms, community room, fitness room, 2 dayrooms, and a training/storage room. Careful consideration was given to design for traffic impact, noise concerns, privacy, parking, trash pick-up, and a strong street presence. The Town of Youngtown approved necessary variances to support the needs of the Sun City Fire District.
The proposed architectural style was chosen by the Fire Department to be a territorial traditional style. We developed the style from an urban infill vernacular perspective that would portray a strong civic presence and that would be recognizable as a traditional fire station.
